Privacy policy

Last updated 27 Oct 2026

This policy covers the Roasters Pal app for iPhone and Android, Roasters Pal Cloud at roasterspal.com, and this website. Roasters Pal is made by Astijus Skirius, Bedford, United Kingdom ("I", "me"). Questions or requests: info@roasterspal.com.

The short version

  • Your roasts, notes and bean inventory are stored on your phone. They leave it only if you choose to use Roasters Pal Cloud, a backup, AI analysis or sharing.
  • I don't sell your data, and I don't use it for advertising profiles.
  • You can delete your Roasters Pal Cloud account and everything in it at any time.

What the app collects

On your phone only. Roast profiles, temperature readings, notes, ratings, bean inventory and settings stay on your device. Bluetooth is used only to talk to your thermometer.

Roasters Pal Cloud account (optional). If you sign in, the server stores your username, your email address (used only for confirming the address and password resets), a secure hash of your password, the roasts you upload, and the name of each device you sign in from. Uploaded roasts are private unless you mark them as shared; shared roasts can be seen by other signed-in users.

Purchases. Subscriptions and AI request packs are paid through the App Store or Google Play; I never see your card details. The app uses RevenueCat to check what you have bought, with a random ID that is not your name or email.

Ads (Free version). The Free version shows ads from Google AdMob. When you first open the app in the UK or the European Economic Area, it asks whether Google may use your data to show personalised ads. If you say no, Google shows only non-personalised ads, chosen without your personal data. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings › About › Privacy. In other countries Google may use your phone's advertising ID to show more relevant ads; you can reset or turn off the advertising ID in your phone's settings. The app doesn't ask iPhone users for permission to track them, so on iPhone the advertising ID isn't shared. Premium has no ads. How Google uses this data: Google's advertising policy.

AI analysis (Premium). When you ask for an AI analysis, the selected roast — its readings, graph, phases, beans and your notes — is sent to Google's Gemini service to produce the answer. Your name and email are not sent. The answer is saved in the app, and each request (type, time and token count) is logged in Roasters Pal Cloud so your allowance works across your phones.

Feedback. If you send feedback from the app or the contact form on this website, I receive your name, email address (if given) and message, and use them only to reply. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block spam.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, your email address is kept by MailerLite and/or Mailchimp to send the newsletter. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.

Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics). If the app crashes, a crash report is sent to Google's Firebase Crashlytics so I can find and fix the problem. It contains technical details only: what went wrong in the app's code, the time of the crash, the app version, the phone model and its operating system version, and random IDs for this app installation and session. It does not contain your roasts, notes, name or email. Crash reports are kept for 90 days.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase). The app sends anonymous usage statistics to Google Analytics for Firebase, such as which screens and features are used, how long a session lasts, the app version, phone model and operating system, and your approximate location (country or city, worked out from the internet connection, not GPS) and, where your phone allows it, the advertising ID (see Ads above). They are linked to a random ID for this app installation, not to your name, email or Roasters Pal Cloud account. I use them only to see which features matter and where to improve the app, never for advertising profiles. Detailed usage events are kept for 2 months, and the random installation ID with its basic settings for 14 months. After that, only combined totals remain (for example, how many people used a feature in a month), which can't be traced back to anyone.

App Check (Firebase). When you create a Roasters Pal Cloud account in the app, Google's Firebase App Check confirms the request comes from the genuine app on a real device (using Google Play Integrity or Apple App Attest), to stop fake sign-ups. No personal data is added to it.

This website

Website statistics. To understand how our website is used, we use Matomo, an open-source analytics tool hosted on our own server, so the data is not shared with third parties. It does not use cookies. It records the pages you visit, the time of the visit, the referring website, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (country and city), which is derived from your IP address after the IP address has been shortened (anonymised). We use this data only to improve the website.

The website sets no tracking cookies. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google. Roasters Pal Cloud uses one session cookie to keep you signed in.

How long data is kept

  • Roasts in Roasters Pal Cloud stay until you delete them or your account.
  • If your account is above its storage limit (for example after Premium ends), roasts above the limit are hidden, you are emailed, and after 180 days the oldest ones above the limit are deleted.
  • Accounts unused for 360 days are deleted with their roasts, after email warnings.
  • When Premium ends, unused AI requests are removed.
  • Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.
  • Crash reports: 90 days. Usage statistics: detailed events 2 months, installation IDs 14 months; after that only anonymous totals.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to how it is used. You can delete roasts yourself in Roasters Pal Cloud; for anything else, email info@roasterspal.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Roasters Pal is not meant for children under 13.

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. Important changes will be shown in the app.
