Coffee drinks recipes by the roast type
Version 2.1.0 of the app added coffee drink recipes. You can look up a recommended recipe for espresso, V60, AeroPress and similar methods, matched to the roast's parameters: density, Agtron and roast level.
I often struggle to pick a starting recipe for a freshly roasted batch. Usually I reuse the recipe from the previous one, then keep adjusting the ratio, temperature and everything else until the coffee runs out — never quite sure I found the best cup.
Then I found density.coffee, which suggests a brewing recipe based on bean density. I tested those recipes, took notes, and decided to build a similar method into the app. A voting system is planned, so together we can find the best cup faster. The feature is still being tested.
Two questions to think about: does a "golden cup" recipe based on the roast type make sense — and can that cup be found at all?
Under-extracted coffee is sour; over-extracted coffee is bitter.
How to use it:
- If the coffee tastes sour, increase extraction next time: move up about 20 steps in the recipe series.
- If the coffee tastes bitter, decrease extraction next time: move down about 20 steps.
